Extratour Gersfeld

Hiking trail through the Hessian and Bavarian Rhön

The Extratour Gersfeld hiking trail officially commences at the swimming pool car park. For our customers, the tour will begin directly in front of the workshop.

The 'Extratour Gersfeld' (a red G on the hiking trails) is located next to our company sign, marking the start of the trail.

The swimming pool car park is a five-minute walk away, from where the route leads via the wildlife park to Mosbach.

Should you require refreshment before the ascent of the Hohe Hölle, the restaurant 'Zur Hohen Rhön Jausenstation' is conveniently located in Mosbach.

From the Swedenwall car park, the trail ascends steeply up the Hohe Hölle, marking the point at which the nature reserve begins.

The ascent to the Hohe Hölle is a significant historical event. You will now be hiking alternately on Hessian and Bavarian territory on the mats of the Rhön.

The location is indicated by 150-year-old boundary stones bearing the initials 'KP' (for the Kingdom of Prussia) and 'KB' (for the Kingdom of Bavaria).

The Prussians were engaged in conflict with Bavaria during the German-German War.

The Bavarians were unsuccessful, resulting in Gersfeld reverting to Hessian control from 1816 to 1866.

Once you reach the high hell, you continue on to the Himmeldunkberg.

From Himmeldunkberg, the trail descends a few metres through the forest to Simmelsberg.

The descent from the Simmelsberg, with a view of the Wasserkuppe, leads to the Rodenbacher Küppelchen.

Once you arrive at Rodenbacher Küppel, the extra tour takes you back to our workshop in Gersfeld.

Arrival 1sternehotel - Accessories and workshop for Mercedes-Benz Marco Polo.
