The VB Airsuspension full air suspension is a suspension system in which all components of the original Mercedes-Benz suspension, i.e. springs and shock absorbers, are replaced by air bellows and sensors.
The air suspension is available for the Mercedes-Benz V-Class, Vito, Marco Polo, Marco Polo Horizon, Marco Polo Activity, for RWD vehicles and 4matic, i.e. all-wheel drive vehicles. The suspension itself is available in two different versions. Standard variant and plus 30 mm variant.
The standard version of the suspension has the height of an unladen V-Class in the neutral position. The plus 30 mm variant is 30 mm higher in the zero position, i.e. original. However, it must be said that vehicles without air suspension always sag slightly due to loading and wear. The air suspension prevents this. With more load, the suspension simply pumps up to achieve the originally defined vehicle height.
In the standard version of the VB Airsuspension 4C full air suspension, the distance from the centre of the wheel hub to the mudguard is 42 cm at the front and 42.5 cm at the rear. This is how a V-Class / Vito or Marco Polo should actually stand. With the plus 30 mm variant, the distance between the wheel hub and the mudguard is 45 cm at the front and 45.5 cm at the rear. unfortunately, the Marco Polo with kitchen, rear extension, camping accessories, full water tanks etc. does not even come close to the ride height that the vehicle should actually have. As a result, most loaded Marco Polos have a wedge shape towards the rear.
The VB air suspension is therefore always a good choice here. Not only the option to drive off-road, but also the automatic levelling for camping is ingenious. You press the autolevelling button and the vehicle straightens itself out. There's no need for wheel chocks and you always sleep upright in the pop-up roof or on the lower bed in the Marco Polo.
We install all VB Airsuspension chassis with Autolevel function for camping and emergency inflation valves in the engine compartment. CanBus modules are installed to read out the vehicle data permanently in order to optimise the use of all suspension functions.
VB-FullAir control unit
The VB-FullAir is equipped with an electronic control unit, the so-called VB-ASCU (VB-Air Suspension Control Unit). The unit automatically controls and corrects the ride height of the vehicle, ensuring safer driving behaviour and greater comfort, regardless of the load.
Software
The electronic control unit is compatible with the vehicle electronics and the ESC system of the Mercedes-Benz-Benz Vito/V-Class. Different software variants allow the VB-FullAir to be customised to the specific purpose of the vehicle. And worldwide support can be provided via the Internet.
Advantages of the VB-FullAir:
Constant ride height
Increased comfort
Optimum road holding
Increased stability
Comfortable passenger transport
Better protection for fragile/sensitive goods
Lowering function for loading and unloading goods
Less wear and tear on tyres/brakes
Environmentally friendly, lower CO2 emissions
Spare wheel remains under the vehicle
New height specification with the respective VB Air variant ???
The most frequently asked question, which unfortunately cannot be answered precisely. Depending on the wheel variant 17", 18", 19" and its tyre cross-section, not to mention of course the tread thickness of the tyre. These are all parameters that determine the height of the chassis.
We therefore only make precise statements between the centre of the wheel hub to the lower edge of the mudguard. The difference to the current vehicle height can be measured individually on each vehicle. To do this, measure the current distance between the centre of the wheel hub and the lower edge of the mudguard. Add the difference to the current vehicle height. The current vehicle height is NOT 1.99 m as stated in the vehicle registration document. The actual vehicle height is between 192cm and 197cm, depending on the load on the vehicle.
With our off-road / AT wheel sets, you can gain up to 2.6 cm in height in addition to the chassis.
Possible vehicle heights for VB-FullAir standard version
Zero position / normal driving mode 42 cm at the front and 42.5 cm at the rear from the centre of the wheel hub to the mudguard
Sport level 40cm at the front and 40.5cm at the rear from the centre of the wheel hub to the mudguard, for a firmer ride on the motorway
Offroad level 45cm front and 45.5cm rear from the centre of the wheel hub to the mudguard, can be driven up to 30 km/h, faster and the suspension automatically lowers to the zero position
Underground car park level, air completely out of the bellows, can be driven up to 5 km/h, faster and the suspension automatically lowers to the neutral position
Auto level, where the vehicle aligns itself straight for camping in all directions
Freely programmable level 1, where we set the maximum height, so the vehicle goes a lot higher than the offroad mode, for driving onto ferries or if you can't get high enough with the offroad mode.
Freely programmable level 2, where we set the vehicle fully up at the front and fully down at the rear to make it easier to empty the water tank. Because the vehicles with air suspension have the desired slight wedge shape, the water no longer runs off as easily as most Marco Polo drivers are used to.
Possible vehicle heights for VB-FullAir plus 30mm variant
Zero position / normal driving mode 45cm front and 45.5cm rear from centre of wheel hub to mudguard
Sport level 42cm at the front and 42.5cm at the rear from the centre of the wheel hub to the mudguard, for a firmer ride on the motorway
The Marco Polo remains under 2 metres in height, even with the +30mm off-road variant
Off-road level 48cm front and 48.5cm rear from centre of wheel hub to mudguard, drivable up to 30 km/h, faster and the suspension automatically lowers to the zero position
Underground car park level, air completely out of the bellows, drivable up to 5 km/h, faster and the suspension automatically lowers to the neutral position
Auto level, where the vehicle aligns itself straight for camping in all directions
Freely programmable level 1, where we set the maximum height, so the vehicle goes a lot higher than in offroad mode, for driving onto ferries or if you can't get high enough with offroad mode.
Freely programmable level 2, where we set the vehicle fully up at the front and fully down at the rear to make it easier to empty the water tank. Because the vehicles with air suspension have the desired slight wedge shape again, the water no longer runs off as nicely as most Marco Polo drivers are used to.
We offer the suspension in combination with a Delta 4x4 Offroad / AT wheel set. In this combination, a Vito, V Class, Marco Polo / Horizon / Activity can be upgraded to 3450KG.
All vehicles converted by us receive the suspension in the desired variant, Autolevel module, emergency filling valves in the engine compartment, CanBus interface for vehicle connection.
After installation of the VB Air suspension, a wheel alignment is carried out by a Mercedes workshop. This ensures that your Marco Polo is back on track and that all radar and sensor systems are working properly.
Optionally, we can also carry out the individual TÜV approval of other tyres/wheels or suspensions. This also requires a speedometer measurement.
Costs for wheel alignment, individual approvals, weight increases and speedometer measurements are exclusive.
