The Mercedes-Benz Marco Polo has a regulated alternator, which ensures that the vehicle's batteries are charged poorly or not at all while driving. By installing the charge booster / charge controller, we prevent the alternator from switching off and ensure that the starter battery and the body battery of the Mercedes-Benz Marco Polo are charged with up to 50A.
The charge booster is mounted under the driver's seat of the Mercedes-Benz Marco Polo and is not visible. The original battery cut-off relay is therefore superfluous.

Recommendation

The Victron Orion XS 12/12-50A DC-DC battery charger is an intelligent charger that charges the battery of your Marco Polo with an output of 50 A.
The charger is freely programmable via the "Victron Connect App" and allows you to customise the settings to your individual needs.

Designed from the ground up, the Orion XS redefines battery-to-battery DC-DC charging. Ideal for dual battery systems charged by an intelligent alternator. This device not only ensures first-class performance, but also guarantees the safety of your system. Stay in control with configurable input and output currents and rest assured that your Orion XS will run at full power up to 40°C. The aluminium PCB technology with 98.5% efficiency reduces heat generation without the need for fans. As an integral part of your Victron system, the Orion XS offers comprehensive (remote) monitoring and control options, giving you complete control over your device and system.

An unlimited number of Orion XS devices can be connected in parallel to easily adapt the output current to the system requirements.
Compatibility with intelligent alternators
With its integrated engine run detection, the Orion XS guarantees that the charger only draws current when the engine is running. It also helps to obtain the correct charging current from intelligent alternators, such as those found in Euro 5 and Euro 6 engines.
Adaptive charging algorithms
The Orion XS has customisable and pre-set charging algorithms for lithium and lead-acid batteries, ensuring optimal charging at both low and deep discharge.
Complete electronic protection
The Orion XS is equipped with comprehensive electronic protection against overload, short circuit and overtemperature. It automatically reduces the output power when the maximum product temperature is reached.
Low temperature cut-out & undervoltage protection
To prevent damage to lithium batteries, the charger automatically switches off at low temperatures and when the input voltage falls below a user-configurable cut-off value, thus protecting the starter battery from deep discharge.
Dust and water resistant
The Orion XS is dust and water resistant and has an IP65 protection rating.
Explanations
Combine any alternator safely with any battery
When the engine is switched off, the Orion XS isolates the service battery so that no current is drawn from the starter battery.
With the engine switch-off detection, the charger only starts when the engine is running.
Protect the alternator
Intelligent alternators (as found in Euro 5/6 engines) do not continuously supply a sufficiently high voltage. The Orion XS increases this voltage to the perfect charging level.
Regardless of the variable input voltage, whether lower or higher, the charger maintains the selected charging algorithm for perfect battery charging. Thanks to the adjustable output current, the correct charging current can be selected for each consumer battery.
